Walters announces bid for Mayor

District 1 Councilwoman Claudia Walters announced her bid for Mayor.

Here is the Republic's Take.

Here is the Trib's Take.

The comments over at the Tribune are getting a little feisty! Here are some interesting samples:

"how are we to trust these things will happen in her first 100 days if she hasn't helped do any of it in the last 6 years!" - Still waiting

"Why can't you get these things done in your LAST 100 days as Vice Mayor. Show us your leadership now." - 100 Days

Personal Fave:

"Why should we trust Rex or Claudia when they haven't made it better around here in the jobs they already have. Thats like giving someone a promotion after they lost your biggest account, broke the copy machine, and ate all the donuts. It makes no sense." - Better than the same ol'

I think I have worked with that guy!! LOL.

Claudia Walters for mayor? NO WAY! That woman NEVER shuts up. Her vision for Mesa is totally out of sync. Hey Claudia, a little less time listening to your daughter's input about the city and a LOT MORE time listening to what the citizens have to say. I recall numerous buildings and a water treatment plant that Claudia voted to giveaway. How was that good for the city? Claudia also favors a City property tax and don't let her fool you, she campaigned for the last one that the voters said NO to.

Hey Claudia, STOP wasting money on your stupid pork barrel projects, including the Arts Center and instead start being more attentive to what this city really needs, LESS ILLEGALS and more businesses that generate SALES TAX MONEY, in addition to stricter code enforcement for our urban blight laws! I just love driving through Mesa while thinking I must be in East Los Angeles with all the cars parked in the front yards with overgrown weeds and junk piled in the carports.

Claudia has also failed to address the pay issues for the Police and Fire Departments. I'm not happy that the City of Mesa spends a lot of money to train new police officers, many of whom do a lateral transfer to cities such as Phoenix who pay more and also offer longevity pay. Claudia and the rest of the council, you need to get with the times and help fill the large amount of unfilled job openings at the fire and especially the police department, instead of continuing to contribute to the problems causing those vacancies. Response times need to improve and our city needs more officers on the street. Never again will I vote for a bogus bond issue such as the one for the Arts Center that also included more funding for Police and Fire. You sold us a fake bill of goods but you'll never pull a fast one like that again.

We need people at city hall who will NOT impose their religious beliefs when voting on things such as liquor licenses, especially for upscale restaurants that would like to operate by the CASHBURNING Arts Center, but refuse to do so because they can't make money without a liquor license. Let responsible citizens decide as to whether or not they wish to partronize an eating establishment who has a liquor license. Adults deserve to be treated as such.

What Mesa really needs is a mayor and city council who can fix the current problems that the current regime is greatly responsible for and without creating new ones. They also need to get in touch with how this city's citizens really feel or don't even bother to run. We've all had enough lip service and if we want more of the fast talking, no action type of governance then we can always elect Claudia Walters, Fastest Mouth In The West!
